Waypoint Waterfront Park

Since 2006, Walker Macy has been working on multiple phases and with multiple owners on the planning and design of the redevelopment of a former Georgia-Pacific paper mill site in Bellingham. The site has been reinvented as a mixed-use urban neighborhood with ample new public open spaces, including a new waterfront park. Planning was guided by the site’s striking context, with views to Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands preserved. The new waterfront park will provide substantial water access, replace a portion of seawall with a renaturalized edge, linking other waterfront open spaces to the new neighborhood. Preserved and repurposed historic resources, such as the iconic Acid Ball, extend the mill’s legacy into the site’s contemporary sense of place.
