Nichols Basin is a still-water lagoon off of the Columbia River that is shielded from the fierce Columbia Gorge winds, making it a destination for light watercraft users. Walker Macy planned the development for several vacant parcels and designed the public park and beach alongside them. The new pedestrian-oriented trail completes a missing waterfront promenade segment and provides access for light watercraft. A new slackwater beach offers a place for people to gather at the Columbia within the quieter, sheltered setting made possible by the basin.
