A post-industrial riverfront site in Eugene is being transformed into a major downtown attraction and catalyst for mixed-use development. The award-winning design reconnects downtown’s 5th Street market area to the Willamette River and establishes a signature urban park. As a cultural landscape, the park integrates ecology, industry, public art, historic structures, and stories through carefully integrated landscape, public art, and interpretive experiences. The park’s form echoes the river’s alignment, with eddies of individual and social gathering spaces organized across terraces that emphasize views to and across the river. Walker Macy subsequently assisted with the upland public realm and streetscape connections to downtown, and is currently designing Phase 2 of the park, and activated urban plaza.
