Tacoma Theater District Placemaking

Walker Macy was engaged by Pierce Transit and City of Tacoma partners to develop a vision that would re-energize Tacoma’s historic Theater District. The design team identified pragmatic strategies along with key capital projects to leverage the public realm, transportation, and the arts to promote economic vitality and improve quality of life. The resulting document will inspire and focus the efforts of public agencies, developers, and local businesses. A re-imagined Theater Square, located on the roof of Pierce Transit’s bus transfer facility, will provide an inclusive and accessible center in a busy and complex environment.
