The Coastal Biology Building is the first built project in our firm’s 2008 master plan. Evoking the “field station” aesthetic of the existing facilities, this new science facility provides classrooms and labs for a growing campus. The site is designed to serve as a living laboratory, providing a natural transition from the building to the coastal wetland surroundings; natural stormwater infiltration; and details that illuminate the ecological function of the site for students and visitors. This new science facility demonstrates UCSC’s high priorities for sustainable design and its position as a leader in sustainable development in the UC system.
